I have attended several meetings with Mid Kansas Engineering Consultants (MKEC), Cook, Flatt & Strobel (CFS) and engineering staff from the City of Wichita. MKEC is engaged by Eastborough in the Kellogg Expansion project and CFS is engaged by Wichita.
The City of Wichita has purchased all the necessary properties in Eastborough and the owners have been given until the end of October to vacate their property. The construction sequence is expected to be as follows:
Obviously this time line could change depending on the timeliness of the completion of each phase.
I'm sure you have also noticed the construction activity at Douglas and Woodlawn on the new traffic signals. The new equipment will be a state-of-the-art computerized signal with black hardware. Final installation will be in November—December 2001.
The City of Eastborough's website is now available at www.eastborough.net. Some of the featured sections include a history of the city, a calendar of events and Councilman's Corner. The purpose of the website is to improve communications between the city and its residents. Contact information for all city council members and city hall staff are also posted on the website. For feedback on the website, please contact Lisa Decker by phone or e-mail (lisa.decker@eastborough.net).
The sight Obstruction Ordinance has been approved and published and the Sight Obstruction Brochures were mailed out to the residents. Should you have any questions or concerns about this issue, please contact the Police Chief at City Hall (682-4111).
Bill DeVore submitted his letter of resignation from the Council to Kay Brada, City Clerk, in July. Thom Rosenberg has been appointed by the Mayor, and confirmed, by the Council, to fill out the unexpired term. Thom recently retired from the Council after serving for four years.
The volunteers of the RACE FOR THE CURE(R) Committee would like to thank the resident of Eastborough for letting us use the city's beautiful streets for our 12th RACE on Saturday morning, September 29, 2001.
We had over 4,500 participants for the 5K Walk and Run to raise money to provide mammograms for medically underserved women and research to reduce breast cancer from a life threatening disease to a manageable disease.
We had a beautiful fall morning to go through the neighborhood and we appreciate the residents' willingness to be inconvenienced while there were runners and walkers on the streets. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation RACE FOR THE CURE(R) is the largest 5K event in the world with over a million participants. Eastborough provides our RACE with a beautiful setting.

It is against postal regulation to place anything in the mailbox that has not been stamped and sent through the mail. In the past, the carriers have overlooked many violations. For the time being they still allow for the officers to place newspapers in the box, when a resident is out of town for a short period of time. But, some of the new carriers are not willing to allow for cards, notes, or invitations to be left in the box without proper postage. This is just a note of caution. Flyers are never allowed to be left in the boxes.
