24 Aug 2011 Eastborough Memorial Benches

From time to time the City of Eastborough is approached by residents who want to leave some sort of memorial to the city in the memory of a Eastborough resident. Unfortunately, we don't always have real opportunities available to properly use these types of donations.

As you are all aware, Eastborough recently added curbs and gutters to the west side streets and completely repaved all those streets. During this construction it was proposed that the city add benches to a number of the "circle parks" found at intersections of streets on the west side.

After examining the situation it was felt the two most likely locations for such benches were the circles on the southwest and northeast corners of the area.

Since the cost of such benches were not included in the original budget for this work, the city council has requested that I contact residents to see if there was any interest on the part of residents in donating these benches as a memorial.

The benches in question would match the benches currently installed at the south side park. They would be set over a concrete pad and would include a 5" x 9" brass plaque identifying the resident in whose name the bench was donated.

The cost of these benches, concrete pads and installation would be approximately $2500. If you have an interest in providing the funds for one of these benches as a memorial or other donation please contact Britt Brown at bmb40@cox.net or 316-685-0858.
